My aim here is to capture the essence of a range of great walks we have done over the years. I hope the descriptions and photos inspire you to give them a go.
They are not a definitive turn-by-turn guide so, where these are available, I have put links to them. For some of the longer ones, we have gone to organisers of self-guided walks who provide the route directions and maps (and most importantly, coordinate multiple accommodations along the routes): again, I have put links in for these too.
Our preference is not to walk as a group as for us, this gives the best experience of the landscape and in many cases the remoteness. We did go as a guided group to The Atlas mountains as this seemed a bit outside our comfort zone. However, for most walks, you can find guided groups online.
Walks I’ll be writing up soon:
- Atlas Mountains – Morocco
- Sentier Cathare – Southern France
- Sierra Nevada: the Alpujarras & Mulhacen
- Sierra Grazelema and Rhonda – Southern Spain
- Camino dos Faros – Galicia Spain
- High Tartra Mountains – Slovakia
- South Downs Way – Southern UK
- Walks and Runs Around Salisbury UK
- Walks on Ashdown Forest
